The Waterbury Health Department has information and resources to help citizens prevent or deal with illness from respiratory viruses like flu. Take Care Of Yourself by preventing the risk of infectious disease with these recommendations and resources.

About Flu

Reducing Flu Risk

The flu virus mainly spreads through the tiny droplets that people produce when they have the flu and cough, sneeze, or talk. These droplets can travel in the air and land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby. A person may also get infected by flu after touching a surface or object that has the virus, and then touching their own mouth, nose, or eyes.

To protect yourself from Flu, a vaccine is recommended – as well as these preventative measures:

Cough and sneeze in the elbow of your clothing

Wash and sanitize hands often

Clean frequently touched surfaces

Avoid touching your face with your hands

Avoid close contact with others
